Economic growth may dip below last year's level : The Times of India - Dated :2/6/01
Even as the Vajpayee government is coming to gripd with the wider economic implications of the Gujarat quake comes more bad news: India's economic growth will slow to 6% this financial year from 6.4% in 1999-2000, according to estimates by the Central Statistical Organisation(CSO) published Monday.

Quake homeless offered food for work (06-Feb-01)
In a bid to avert a mass exodus from India's quake-ravaged state of Gujarat, officials have said that homeless villagers will be offered food in exchange for aiding the reconstruction effort.


Tata institute to help with lighting
NEW DELHI, Feb 6 — Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI), a Delhi-based non-profit research organisation, will work out an action plan for Gujarat to provide lighting and energy to areas where wire, transmission lines and distribution system have been affected due to the earthquake.

AHMEDABAD, Feb 6 — Distressed by horrendous sights in the earthquake-devastated Kutch region, Lord Bill Deedes, an eminent journalist and former British Cabinet Minister, suffered a stroke and has been admitted to a hospital here.


Housing policy for quake-hit soon
AHMEDABAD, Feb 6 — The Gujarat Government would soon announce a housing policy for the quake affected people in the Kutch, Rajkot and Sundernagar districts and give financial assistance for this purpose from the consolidated earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction fund.

Plan to rehabilitate quake victims
AHMEDABAD, Feb 6 — Faced with criticism from different quarters for the lack of coordination in the relief and rescue operations, the Gujarat Government today announced the formation of a separate department for the rehabilitation of the quake victims.
